More than Napoleon's island
Elba is often introduced through Napoleon Bonaparte, who was exiled here in 1814. That history is part of the island’s fascination, but it is only one layer. Elba is the largest island of the Tuscan Archipelago, a place where granite coves, mountain paths, hillside villages and working agricultural traditions sit close together.
Its compact scale makes contrasts easy to find. A short drive can take you from a beach-lined bay to chestnut woods on the slopes of Monte Capanne, or from a harbour town to vineyards and olive groves. The result is an island that rewards both active days and unhurried ones.
